Last year was my first Valentines day being separated from my husband.
After being with him for 7 years, it was hard for me to spend days like these on my own.
It was my first Christmas, Valentines day, Mother’s day, Easter and birthday without him.
It was the year of my firsts and somehow I had to find a way to get through it.
2017 was the hardest and longest year of my life but I made the choice to leave so I had to deal with whatever pain and heartache came along with it.
It definitely became my year of reflection. A year that truly tested my faith and made me a whole lot stronger than I ever was before.
I’m not going to sit here and say it was easy because it wasn’t. The thing is, people will never truly understand the pain you have to endure until they themselves have been through it.
Going through all of this, made me think of how many men and women there are out there who are alone. Who struggle on days like Valentine’s day.
Many have lost their partners through death, divorce, separation or regret and days like these make it difficult for them to forget.
There is no reason why anyone should be alone.
Valentines day is a day of love. It should be celebrated not only with a partner if you have one but with your children, friends and family too.
Stay true to yourself.
