Why don’t we support local talent?
Why do we wait for big shows like Idols SA and SA’s got talent to showcase our towns talent when we are more than capable of doing it on our own.
We all see our local talent posting pictures and videos of themselves on social media everyday but yet we ignore them because in our minds they are not important.
We complain that Cape Town doesn’t get recognised for it’s talent but yet we are doing absolutely nothing to support it.
How do we think celebrities like Cassper Nyovest, AKA, Minnie Dlamini and Bonang Matheba succeeded in the industry? With the help and support of the people in their hometowns of course.
All people did was consistently like and share their photo’s and videos on social media.
The more likes and shares they got the more likeability they got from other people and that lead to more and more exposure for them.
Today they have become some of SA’s biggest stars by people just simply coming together and showing their love and support towards them. It’s that simple but yet we can’t do it.
How many of us are even aware of the fact that there are many artists out there who are recognised everywhere else in the country except for in their own home town? It’s sad but so true.
Cape Town is known as the lazy city when it comes to supporting local talent and I think it’s time to change that.
Youngsta CPT put Cape Town back on the map by showing people that Cape Town slang is cool again and people supported that.
He became one of the Mother City’s true gem’s when he brought home the Lyricist of the year award which he won at the 2017 SA Hip Hop Awards.
Like him, there are many hidden talents here in Cape Town and if we don’t help them succeed, they will remain hidden.
