How to stay in shape “the CanD way”

Most of the people I know, hate working out. They say it’s too much effort and way too strenuous for them after a long day’s work.

When they get home, all they want to do is lay in front of the television and relax.

We all know working out is hard enough on its own, but for most people doing it alone is even harder. Some people need that comradery; someone to keep them distracted with conversation or just a tad bit of motivation.

Therefore, I would like to suggest that, instead of sitting at home over a weekend, call up a few of your friends and family and start a hiking group.

Hiking in my opinion is for everyone.

You can hike as a family, it would be great for your kids to get in touch with nature and while you at it, take your pets along. On the other hand, get your friends together, set a date and make a day of it.

Hiking is so much fun because not only are you getting in a great workout, but also you get to spend time with the people you love.

For me, the best thing about hiking is when you are tired, you can stop and chill. Then carry on with the hike on your own pace and not feel pressured to keep up with anyone.

Shannen Cacey-lee Buys, Tara Courtene’, Wade Cannon, Radcliffe Roelse, Courtney Roelse and I were at Newlands Forest doing a mini hiking trail while we were shooting for my blog. Hiking, getting dressed into different outfits, whilst doing the hike was hard work!

Nevertheless, we had so much fun while we were doing it.

I have listed a few hiking trails below for you to check out. The times listed next to each trail is just to give you an estimated completion time, for you to plan ahead for your day hike. Just remember this will depend on your level of fitness:

Pipe Track, Kloof Nek ± 1-3hrs
Constantia Nek 40 min
Cecilia Waterfall Hike ± 3hrs
Lion’s Head ±1 hr
Woodstock Cave ±2.5 hrs
Lighthouse Keeper Trail ±2 hrs
Elephant’s Eye Cave, Silvermine ± 3-4 hrs
Table Mountain
Newlands Forest

I hope you guys enjoyed my post and that you will actually make a date with your friends and family to go on at least one hike for the year.

If you haven’t hiked before, don’t worry there is always a first time for everything and I am sure you will enjoy it just as much as we did.

Stay true to yourself.
