How many of us have experienced the phrase, “When days are dark, friends are few”?
I know I have, how about you?
Some people are just there for the nice times and parties.
Most of us don’t like admitting it, but the only time we actually see who our true friends is when we go through tough times in our lives.
About a year ago, I read a book called Destiny, step into your purpose by TD Jakes. This book really opened my eyes to so many things.
One of the things I came across in this book was the different types of friendships we will experience in our lives and today I would like to share what I have learnt from this book with you.
These are the 3 different types of friends:
- Confidants: These are people who will love you unconditionally no matter what. They will have your back during the good, the bad and the ugly. They will stand up for you and they will defend you to the death. They are your true supporters in life and if you have friends like these keep them close because they are very hard to find.
- Constituents: These are people who are just friends with you because you share the same interests with them. They don’t love or care for you. They are only friends with you so that they can benefit from you. People like this are always on the look out for someone better that they can be friends with. “They are always looking for someone who will best serve their purpose and their need.” These people will break your heart and abandon you and think nothing of it.
- Comrades: These are people who will only stand by you if they are in an agreement with you over something. They will stand by you and they will support you when you going up against the same enemy. Once that is over they will move on to the next thing.
One thing that I have learnt out of all of this is that if someone is truly your friend, they will cry with you when you are sad, they will laugh and share in your excitement when you are happy or when something good happens in your life. They will be proud of you when you achieve success and they will be your biggest cheerleaders in your life.
Don’t ever waste your time, money or effort on people who are not willing to do the same for you. If you do, you will end up getting hurt in the end.
Stay true to yourself.
